Dreams: The Periodic Table
This week, I'd like to share an inspiring story about Dmitri Mendeleev, the Russian chemist who created the periodic table of elements. His journey to this groundbreaking discovery is a powerful reminder of how God can guide us through dreams and visions.
"For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds." - Job 33:14-15 (NLT)
Mendeleev had been tirelessly working on organizing the elements based on their atomic weights and properties. Despite his relentless efforts, he struggled to find a pattern that made sense. One night, exhausted from his work, Mendeleev fell asleep and had a remarkable dream. In his dream, he saw the elements falling into place in a table, arranged according to their atomic weights and properties. When he woke up, he immediately wrote down what he had seen, and thus the periodic table was born.
This dream was more than just a stroke of luck or a figment of his imagination; it was a divine revelation that provided clarity and insight beyond his own understanding. Mendeleev's dream is a testament to how God can work through our subconscious to reveal His wisdom and guidance.
Just as God spoke to Mendeleev in a dream, guiding him to one of the most significant scientific discoveries in history, He continues to speak to us today. He may give us dreams that inspire, guide, and reveal His plans for our lives. It’s a beautiful reminder that God is always at work, even when we are at rest. Just make sure you follow Dimitri’s example, when you wake up, immediately write it down.
The Blood of the Lamb

When Jesus wanted to fully explain his forthcoming death, he didn't give them theory; he gave them a meal because the meal is a point of encounter. Every time that we come, we know that we meet with him and that he meets us there. Every time that we come to the table, it's an invitation to come closer, to be partakers of the divine, of the new creation. We come to the table not because we must but because we may; we come to the table not because we are strong but because we are weak, and in our weakness, we are made strong. We come because of his goodness, because of our need for mercy and help. We come because we love him, but most importantly, because he loved us and gave himself for us. We come and we encounter the risen Christ and everything that entails, for he is our portion. As Lamentations 3 states, "The Lord is my portion, my soul; therefore I will hope in him." So, every time that we come to the table, there is hope—hope for our needs, hope for everything that he bought at the cross of Calvary: our healing, for new relationships, for resurrection, for life. There is hope, and he is here. That's why he didn't give us theory; he gave us a meal so you can encounter him today.
Body/Bread
Paul writes: “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you. The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread—let's take our bread—and when he had given thanks, he broke it—let's break it—and said, This is my body, broken for you. This is his body, broken for me; I do this in remembrance of him.” (Receive the bread)
Blood/Wine
And in the same way, after supper, he took the cup, saying, “This is the cup of the new covenant in my blood, do this whenever you drink it in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. (Receive the wine)
